Smash Success at Wimbledon Tennis Championships

Eve Trakway, Europe’s leading supplier of temporary access solutions has once again provided infrastructure to The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club for the 2003 Wimbledon Tennis Championships. Over the last few weeks temporary roadways, pedestrian flooring, barriers and bridging have been installed at the world famous club in South West London.

The massive installation amounted to over 14.5km of access equipment including 6km of aluminium roadways used for car parking, bus turning and emergency services, 7,600m2 of Traktile pedestrian flooring, 500 crowd control barriers and required over 35 loads to deliver. Alongside the range of traditional equipment, Eve Trakway also installed its now familiar aluminium box bridge.

The modular design of the bridge allows for a clear span of 30m, ensuring aerial access for approximately 25,000 pedestrians per day from the adjacent golf club and is supplemented by a further 54m of bridging running alongside the main road. The 90m structure took a fully trained team of six Eve Trakway operatives and three 120 tonne cranes, 12 days to erect.

John Cox, Building and Services Manager for AELTCC commented: “Our 20 year relationship with Eve Trakway has been a successful one. Their range of access equipment has met our requirements helping with the movement of over 450,000 spectators and thousands of vehicles that visit The Championships each year.”
Eve Trakway entered into the three year contract with AELTCC in 2001 when the bridge was officially launched into the Eve Trakway product range. Since then it has expanded its range of vehicular and pedestrian bridges to 15 with a combined length of over 250m. These bridges are used on such prestigious contracts as: Hampton Court Flower Show, The Royal Welsh Show, The Ryder Cup and Crick Boat Show.

Eve Trakway is also involved in Goodwood Festival of Speed, The British Grand Prix and many other sporting events in the UK and Europe where it provides temporary roadways, fencing, pedestrian flooring and crowd control barriers. Eve Trakway is also the leading supplier of temporary access equipment to the construction and utilities industries.
